The Khanal Laboratory (KLab) focuses on nutritional physiology and the use of alternative nutrient sources to develop sustainable nutritional strategies for production animals and humans. Our research integrates nutrition, metabolism, and physiology to understand how novel feed ingredients influence animal health, productivity, and long-term metabolic outcomes, with relevance for sustainable food systems and human health.
Our Research Focus
Nutritional physiology and metabolism
Alternative nutrient sources
Gut microbiome-diet interactions
Developmental and nutritional programming
Why It Matters
Global food production faces increasing pressure to reduce environmental impact while improving human health, and animal health and productivity. By identifying sustainable alternative nutrient sources and understanding their physiological and metabolic effects, our research supports the development of efficient, resilient, and environmentally responsible food and feed systems.
